...country. The escalation in physical and sexual assaults on students is not unique to the U.S. In Oxford, the rather glamorous old conflicts between privileged students and hardnosed town residents have been replaced by horrifying acts of violence--not in the name of class war, but for the sake of drugs, money and kicks. In the U.S. violence has shifted from premeditaion to simple brutality: one in which the randomness of it all makes everyone a possible victim and a possible assailant. Sit in the Tasty in the wee hours of the morning, and watch assembled oddballs stagger in, argue...
Hence, politics is a disgusting business. It is a process which systematically disregards such fundamental concepts as truth and integrity. And realizing the way political campaigns actually function only serves to further disillusion voters. For the sake of Americans everywhere, I hope the Bush campaign will be more careful with its confidential memos. ...Limbaugh is a one-man conglomerate. He has the book, which longtime listeners will recognize as Rush's Greatest Hits. (He hits on liberalism, environmentalism, Hollywood, and for old time's sake he hits on Mikhail Gorbachev.) Their works, he said, "demand to be studied and meditated over many times. For though we now paint following a different course and method, if it is not established upon this kind of study, ((our)) painting may easily end in ruin." This is why Michelangelesque poses often recur in Ribera's early work, such as the half- ruined, still...
...argument's sake, let's say Knowles' refusal to meet with Raza President Lilia Fernandez '95 and La O President Efrain Cortes '94 last week isn't totally incomprehensible. Let's grant that Knowles is a busy man who had already filled his schedule with important meetings for the week. And let's take Knowles at his word when he says he wanted the students to meet with some one in University Hall as soon as possible rather than wait for a far-off meeting with him. Fine...
