...eventually struck it rich as a friend and confidant of Texas' Big Rich oilmen. (After he moved to Fort Worth in 1952, he did legal spadework for the late Sid Richardson and is co-executor of the multimillion-dollar Richardson estate.) In appointing Connally for Johnson's sake, the Kennedys had much to forgive: as Johnson's presidential campaign manager, Connally distinguished himself at the Los Angeles convention by calling a desperation press conference to suggest that Rival Candidate Kennedy was suffering from a serious case of Addison's disease. Bohnenkai for upper echelons of executives generally start around 6 p.m. in a restaurant. After enough hot sake has been downed, the businessmen often show off their talents for entertaining-singing, dancing, doing magic tricks. Obsessed with a suspicion of "out-of-state" ideas and people, state authorities arbitrarily limited the number and length of visits to the 70-year-old pacifist. Now, the Superior Court has finally refused to keep him in jail any longer...

A thief and village scribe, he is made judge by the soldiers, and during his reign he subverts the law for the sake of justice, taking bribes from the rich to give verdicts to the poor. He tries Grusha's case, and decides that the real mother is the woman who can pull the child from a chalk circle drawn on the ground. The governor's wife wins...
