...County firm that makes the $199.50 Taser, reports that all sales thus far have been to private citizens bent on self-protection. Currently 200 Tasers a week are coming off the production line, and more than 1,000 have been sold since March. The company has been urging its salesmen to do their best to sell the Taser refill cartridge ($10 each) only to legitimate customers, but with the Miami robbery, another weapon has entered the arsenal of both sides in the crime...

There were hospitality suites, mammoth displays, scurrying salesmen in double-knit suits and white shoes, lissome models in hot pants and boots-all the personnel and paraphernalia used every day at U.S. trade shows. Only the merchandise was hardly everyday at the 29th annual Air Force Association Convention in Washington last week. Its purpose was to allow weapons manufacturers to display their wares to Pentagon brass hats, who buy, and Congressmen, who vote to pay the bills. The result was a blend of bombs and blinking lights, where some of the most deadly armaments were packaged and promoted...

Chicago-based CB Center of America, which operates two retail stores on each coast, reports sales of 500 sets per week, double last year's rate. Says Co-Owner Fred Bartlett: "We're selling them to salesmen, doctors, businessmen, housewives-just about everyone." Unlike "ham" radio, which calls for considerable expertise and costs at least $700 for a good set, a CB unit takes no more skill to operate than a telephone and costs only about $120. No exam is needed for the $4, FCC-required CB license, but only a minority of buyers bothers...
