John Polk is a shy college boy getting ready for a birthday present from his frat brothers--a night with a French Quarter prostitue. Drinking at the Blue Angel saloon to settle his nerves, he is intruded upon by Ashbe, a girl with horn-rimmed glasses and non-stop chitchat. The two misfits somehow hit it off and end up at Ashbe's unkempt apartment, where she serves Cheerios, marshmallows, and drinks with blue food-coloring. By the end of the night, they are dancing to the sweet sounds of New Orleans radio, very pleased in their shared oddness...
Mere mention of Claude Dallas can spark a shoving match in any Great Basin saloon or diner. "We have a lot of lacy, saloon-girl dresses by Gunne Sax, and dresses with a ruffle in back are also popular," Rosie says. Formal dresses in Jordan Marsh's junior department retail...
Many a Western legend was born over whisky and roulette at the Crystal Palace Saloon in Tombstone, Ariz. Wyatt Earp, who took part in the famed shootout at the O.K. Corral (just two blocks away), gambled there. Doc Holliday and Bat Masterson came for serious drinking, while upstairs Pioneer Surgeon George Goodfellow removed bullets from slow-moving cowboys. Despite harrowing moments and hard times, the saloon is still in business and is now up for sale. The asking price...
