...what Mulkerin said (he had his points) but rather the sneering and insulting tone he chose. He called his opponents "malcontents" and twice termed their proposal "ludicrous." He labeled them a "moronic Garden appeasement movement," a "pity party" and advised us to ignore their "whining." He dragged out his sarcasm, that verbal hidden dagger, in referring to the "cruel fate" and the "alleged suffering" of the Garden Streeters. He even managed a gratuitous insult against blameless Thayer Hall...

...argue over opera in unbelievably petty detail. They disparage various divas ("That Greek mezzo with the hair on her chest") and other opera buffs ("[Renata Tebaldi fans] are a mean little bunch") and occasionally show traces of real emotion. ...warm, fuzzy "image ads" of campaigns past -- candidates frolicking with kids on the beach. There is little of the slick propagandizing of such ads as the famous anti-Goldwater spot from 1964 (a little girl with a daisy, interrupted by a mushroom-shaped cloud).
