...squad left for Red Top on Sunday, June 12. Two days later the eight assumed an order which has not changed since. Strong replaced Newton at 6, Newton forcing Sargent out of the boat at 2. Metcalf took Balch's seat at 3. The rest of the crew kept their positions. At New London the crew has continued to improve with each row. On Wednesday, June 15, the eight paddled very easily over four miles in 23 minutes and 25 seconds. Last Monday the eight covered approximately four miles again. ...expectations, a further change was made in the order of the University four. Coach Wray had said that the bow positions of the four were settled but Balch was shifted from bow to 3 and was replaced by Loring from the second four. Forster at stroke and Sargent at 2 kept their positions. This order was tried out in the afternoon and worked better than any other that has been tried so far. It is the same in which the four rowed in the trial race against the second last Thursday...
...their arrival at New London. The two crews rowed easily one mile down-stream and back. The University four went out with Waite at stroke in place of Forster, who stroked the second four. In one or two brushes, the second four was victorious. It seems likely that Hooper, Sargent, and Balch will be permanent now at 3, 2, and bow, respectively, in the University four, with the stroke position lying between Forster and Waite.
