...Fogg has a lovely little exhibit of American watercolors tucked away in one of its back galleries that includes works by Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent. The Fogg doesn't really do all that much special with American art, especially non-contemporary works, all the more reason not to miss this treat. The museum's PR person, Janet Cox, says her art friends all think that the Fogg's Homers and Sargents are as good as the ones hanging in the MFA, and Janet wouldn't try to fool you. Alan Altshuler, 33, a farsighted urban planner, became Massachusetts' secretary of transportation and construction in 1971, after leading the effort to persuade Republican Governor Francis Sargent to halt all new expressway construction in the Boston area until a plan balancing environmental and social consequences, mass transit, and automobile use could be fully worked out.
