...immensely enjoyed Little Nicky, a heartwarming story about the devil (Harvey Keitel, a bit out of place in this classless romp) and his three sons: ne'er-do-wells Adrian (Rhys Ifans) and Cassius (Tom Lister) and wimpy, innocent Nicky (Sandler). This isn't your father's hell; Satan rules justly over the condemned souls, respecting that a natural balance must exist between good and evil. However, when Adrain and Cassius make a break for the surface, the natural order of things is disrupted, and it is up to Nicky to save- well, just about everyone...
...running against an anti-anti-Clinton sentiment; in other words, though plenty of people in New York State were disgusted by the president's affair with Monica Lewinsky, at least as many had come away from the last six years equating Lazio's former boss (Newt Gingrich) with Satan incarnate. ...Roman Catholic Church may sound like a movie premise [RELIGION, Oct. 2], but the growth in the number of people who seem unable to distinguish reality from what they see in the movies and on television should be a cause for concern. Isn't it dubious to blame Satan for the lack of a moral anchor and an increased flirtation with paganism? Mightn't these be signs of growing scientific illiteracy and irrationalism? He uses his wishes to change himself in ways to make himself more appealing to the girl, being defeated by Satan at every turn, until he learns that he doesn't have to change himself to find love. For all its computer animation and dot-com references, Bedazzled feels fairly musty; it's the sort that you might take your grandmother to, if it weren't for the penis-size jokes...
