...intrepid pilot of the silk scarf and goggles school, the kind of man who could (and did) attempt to set a new speed record between Paris and Saigon, who could crash in the Sahara and survive, rescued by Bedouins. He was also the acclaimed author of such international best sellers as the novel Night Flight (1931) and the children's tale The Little Prince (1943). As if these achievements did not generate sufficient glamour, Antoine de Saint- Exupery also managed a death that was both heroic and mysterious. At 44, he had won permission to fly photoreconnaissance missions over...
Love may well be life's most blinding obsession, but Colwin is so obsessed with her subject that for the first six of her eight stories she actually neglects the players. Flesh fades before wordplay as he, elegant in his tweed coat and paisley scarf, embraces her, a slob in worn corduroys and ratty sweater, on the way to the frowsy couch in Billy's study. Readers can scarcely hear Billy's battered loafers thud to the floor for the detonations of insights and definitions...

It depicted a cigar-smoking tart with a mug of beer in one hand, a bomb in the other. "Now that takes me back," she said. "I used to know everything about these things, but that was three husbands ago. You couldn't ask me anything now." After the crowd had had a chance to inspect the craft up close, the show cranked...
...Pierce of Exton but is best when he is the irate red-faced Mowbray defending himself from murder accusation in Act I. Nicholas 'Davis also plays three roles but succeeds most at Sir John Bushy, a flaky favorite of Richard who flits about with a brightly colored silk scarf. Kristin Gasser is superb as the forlorn and lonely Queen to Richard who suffers from "nameless woe." Gasser is particularly effective in her final departure scenes with Richard. Jennifer Burton, Diane Paulus and Caroline Bicks occasionally succumb to overacting and have yet to master the art of walking like...
