...first evidence of this scenario was established in 1964, when astronomers discovered the cosmic microwave background, the original radiation from the Big Bang. The second part, though, was much trickier. In order for gravity to make galaxies out of atoms, it needed something to work with -- some chunks of space in which the atoms were closer together, a region of greater than average density, so that they could draw surrounding matter in. The excess densities need not have been very large, but they had to be there if matter was to congeal. And if they were present, they should...

Suddenly, last November, the U.S. Justice Department blamed the bombing on two Libyans, Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi and Lamen Khalifa Fhimah. The scenario prompted President Bush to remark, "The Syrians took a bum rap on this." It also triggered an outcry from the victims' families, who claimed that pointing the finger at Libya was a political ploy designed to reward Syria for siding with the U.S. in the gulf war and to help win the release of the hostages. Even Vincent Cannistraro, former head of the CIA's investigation of the bombing, told the New York Times...
...impossible for Oswald to have murdered Kennedy from a sixth-floor rear perch. The physician says it is clear that "someone had tampered with the body" during its extralegal transfer from Texas to the autopsy room at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland, presumably to support a single-gunman scenario. The injuries shown on autopsy photos, Crenshaw says, "are not the same wounds I saw at Parkland...
...readers who want just a little spice added to the Oswald-did-it scenario, there is Bonar Menninger's Mortal Error (St. Martin's Press; 361 pages; $23.95). According to Howard Donahue, a Baltimore ballistics expert, Kennedy was killed by a Secret Service agent in the presidential motorcade who accidentally discharged his AR-15 rifle. But Donahue says that Kennedy probably would have died anyway from the neck wound inflicted by Oswald. Among those unconvinced by this scenario is Menninger's publisher, who added a 17- page disclaimer to the book...
