...shield, drawn by Hugh Perrin '21, who won the competition for an appropriate design for the Interdormitory All-Round Athletic Championship Trophy scheme, is being completed by the Gorham Company, and will probably be ready for installation in the three dormitories by Commencement. Shields will be placed in Standish, Gore and Smith, to be marked permanently with a record of the sport series. The shields are made possible by the gift of $1000 from an anonymous contributor...

...This scheme, it is reported, has already been put into effect, and several payments have already been made. But the plan seems to us to be based on an unsound economic theory, to the effect that a man's pocket book is as corpulent as his person. The facts scarcely seem to bear this out. Most of our millionaires (take Mr. Rockefeller for example) do not come under the scope of such an excess profits tax as this. Most of them are of medium build; some of them are actually thin. And in this hot weather, it is not likely...

...lesson of the nation-wide price-cutting wave is that under-consumption is as objective in reducing prices as is greater production. The Kansas City experiment reveals another method of bringing values back to normal. As yet the scheme has not been applied in other parts of the country. The plan has been to use Kansas City for an object-lesson, which, if heeded, will serve to prevent an equally dangerous situation from becoming acute in other cities. The warning may be enough--if not, legislation such as has proved so successful in Kansas City may have to be enforced...

...Council, under the authority of which body there should be little trouble in arranging for an agency to have general oversight of the student calendar. Would not the appointment of a single undergraduate, with whom all organizations would be compelled to register important dates, be sufficient? By such a scheme the cumbrousness of a committee would be avoided, and ceneralization of control would be made doubly certain. The hours for all scheduled meetings and games could be entered in a book which would be placed in some conveniently located spot, always open to consultation. Naturally, the student "bookkeeper" would...

Several years ago a similar plan was given a spasmodic trial, but failed, despite its acknowledged value, because it lacked the official sanction of the Student Council. Such a scheme can succeed only when it is required that all meetings open to the whole or a large part of the undergraduates be listed. If this provision is enforced, the plan is deserving of a fair trial...
