Laidler graduated from Wesleyan University in 1907, and from the Brooklyn Law School in 1910. The following year he was granted the degree of Ph. D. by the department of Political Economy of Columbia University. He has traveled widely in Europe and has had many contacts with European leaders of Labor, Socialist, and Cooperative movements.
