Bennett's play is Shakespearean in its scope and reach; A straightforward account of the king's descent into and recovery from madness becomes a political and social commentary through Bennett's devastating use of language: Doctors feud over whether blisters or induced vomiting is the most effective treatment, politicians conspire over the raving body of the king--the twenty odd characters in The Madness of George III are involved in so many different intrigues it's a wonder that the audience can see straight...
...University must clearly define the scope of privacy in the interactions of its staff and faculty. And as we prepare for the coming "electronic information highway," the administration must outline for the faculty and staff the proper code of behavior which reflects this change...
...committee does have an interest, however, in pursuing information that falls beyond the scope of its immediate inquiry. At present, Packwood faces three charges: sexual misconduct, intimidation and misuse of staff. Packwood maintains that it is "unfair and probably unconstitutional" for the committee to disclose incidents unrelated to those charges. Palm trees exploded; $1 million homes seemed to combust spontaneously. At the beach, black smoke hung over the surf, and in downtown...

Several of the disparate strands of the narrative seem intentionally left unresolved to pave the way for a sequel. Throughout the novel one is willing to forgive minor stylistic and narrative gaps, yet the eventual collapse of the historical panorama and Lasher's final confession seem little more than ridiculous. For devotes of the genre Rice offers all the elements which make the erotic/horror/fantasy tale popular--she just fails...
