Though he clearly was courting trouble, Glistrup turned his scorn for the tax laws that he used so well into a national crusade. Appearing on a TV talk show, he compared tax cheats with the guerrillas in the Danish underground who blew up Nazi-controlled railway lines during World War II. "Tax dodgers today are comparable to railroad saboteurs; they are doing a dangerous but useful job for the nation." Public response was so enthusiastic that Glistrup founded...

...them are trivial but telling; others seem to reflect yet another shift in the national mood and the social mode. If the signs are to be believed-and sociologists are sure to debate their significance-the cool-hip chic that has held sway since the 1960s, with its scorn of sentiment and its do-your-own-thing code, is giving way gradually to something suspiciously like a new romanticism. With the exception of Margaret Heilbrun's kindly, effusive Aunt Julia, the other performances also fail to satisfy. Like Hedda, Judge Brack treats those around him with ironically-concealed scorn, matching Hedda's intelligence and selfishness in an intricate struggle for power. But Sam Merrick's wooden caricature blunts Aquino's subtlety. By the end of the play, his languid arrogance and unvarying inflection--each line curved with a sneer--have become thoroughly tiresome. While Ibsen undoubtedly intended Thea Elvsted to be a bland contrast to Hedda, Jennifer Mohr's dull, anxious characterization offers no emotional range or sense...

Harry Dorfman as Arnold Burns and Kipp Rogers as Chuckles the Chipmunk, Murray's boss, also measure up to the rest of the cast. Dorfman competently fills the role of Murray's serious brother who compromised long ago and endures Murray's scorn with dignity. Rogers is fittingly unbearable as the pitifully unfunny Chuckles...
