Except that on Sunday night, the haves had not. Clooney did not win an Academy Award, and neither did the film he was nominated for, the early front runner (and utterly Oscar-worthy) Up in the Air, which even failed to cop its expected prize for Best Adapted Screenplay. Avatar won only three of the nine categories for which it was eligible - the door prizes of Cinematography, Art Direction and Special Effects - and its begetter, James Cameron, supped on the special gall of losing Best Picture and Best Director to The Hurt Locker and his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow, respectively...
...Hanks first comprehended just how immense his own deficit in Pacific-theater history was while making Saving Private Ryan. Around that time, novelist Nora Ephron (who wrote the screenplay for Sleepless in Seattle, which starred Hanks) sent him the two-volume, 1,882-page Library of America Reporting World War II: American Journalism (1938 to 1946) as a gift. He's always discouraging violence or telling youngsters in the projects to go to college. The only time Cheadle convinced me Tango might...
...Crowleys say their decision was ultimately influenced by their trust in Ford, the executive producer of the film who also plays a scientist collaborating with Crowley. The family worked closely with the producers at Doubletree Feature Films throughout the drafting of the screenplay to make sure that the science and family life displayed were accurate...
...been a while. I’ve had three movies with my credits, and they’ve all been different. One movie was completely rewritten, and I didn’t really have anything to do with it; it was just sort of based on my original screenplay. On one movie, the director and I had a parting of the ways, and so I was not really involved once they began shooting, and then my best experience was “Groundhog Day,” where I was involved in preproduction and rewriting and the whole being...
