Friendship with Smith is a pretty good qualification in and of itself. Long ago, in a world that had never heard of Affleck or Damon, Kevin Smith delivered the Good Will Hunting script to one of Miramax's co-presidents, permitting the chain of events that led to an Oscar for both Affleck and Damon...

That would be Ed Stone. Collaborating with first-time director Mark Illsley on the script, he creates drama by placing decent folks in uncomfortable situations. It's as simple as having a man or a woman fall in love with someone wildly unsuitable, and as difficult as making all the parties pleasant and plausible--in the best sense, human...

David O. Russell: I had just finished filming Flirting with Disaster and Warner Bros. invited me to come look at their logs--the logs of all their properties--and I saw this script, which actually I've never read fully, described, and I just jumped on it. I've always wanted to have a larger canvas, and I've had some experiences in the Third World, in Nicaragua after I graduated from college, and it seemed a huge opportunity to deal with a subject that had never really been dealt with, comedically or dramatically. As I researched it, I found...
