Though his stage direction after the scene is simply to step aside as the chorus moves in, Zahr deftly picks up on all the nuances in the tragi-comic libretto and goes on gesturing and mumbling to himself, trying to justify his action...
Still, the movie is notable in many ways—for its innovative interpretation of Amenábar’s vision, for Crowe’s cutting edge script and for the stellar performances of Cruise and Diaz—and many of the film’s flaws can be chalked up to the inherent difficulties of the subject matter.
