...several years previous to last year the baseball management offered a number of cups to be competed for by amateur or "scrub" nines. The amateur championship contests were always lively and exciting, and often resulted in developing men for the class teams. There are many men in the University who are fond of the game, but who do not play well enough to try for the 'varsity or class nines. All such men would be glad to have the old custom revived this year. Last year the management was so apathetic that even the class championship games were not finished...

...class crews do not usually begin work until after the Christmas vacation, but this year each crew entered into some sort of training during the fall. During the football season, the '89 crew formed itself into a scrub football team, while '90, '91 and '92 rowed on the river until the floats were taken up.
