NOTEBOOK: The aquamen go after their fifth Eastern Seaboard Championship next week with hopes of breaking the team scoring record they set last year. Their chances will be hurt with junior Countryman academically ineligible for the meet. . . Bernal and the team's three seniors all received Yale swimming t-shirts Saturday and the Elis three NCAA qualifiers from last year presented Bernal with a Harvard banner that mysteriously disappeared from the championship meet in Austin, Texas...

...ambition is admirable. Many writers have carved wombish little niches for themselves as "chroniclers"--so the "blurbistes" and reviewers call them--of some class or set. Even such a fine writer as John Updike does not care too much about people who happen not to live in an Eastern seaboard suburb or a small part of Pennsylvania and who do not now make more than $40,000. Sure action is supposed to take a long look in all the corners. But someone also has to take all the snapshots and try to piece them together into the moral. Below...

With victory never really in doubt. Crimson coach Joe Bernal concentrated on qualifying more swimmers for the Eastern Seaboard Championship, to be held at West Point March 6. Harvard has won that meet the last three years and should be a heavy favorite once again, since it has beaten most of the teams in the field this winter...
