...PHUKET: Private pools at the 39-villa Trisara resort come as standard, if that's any indication of the cosseting on offer. For a proper splurge, however, book Trisara's top-dollar escape. For $35,000, you'll be waited on hand and foot at a seafront three-bedroom hideaway for five nights, before boarding a three-cabin luxury yacht, which counts a spa therapist and chef among the crew. You'll then be taken on a one-night cruise around Phang Nga Bay, Krabi and Phi Phi, anchoring at Maya Bay - a location for the Danny Boyle movie...

The point of this real estate renaissance: change Singapore's image as a prosperous but rather dull commercial hub into that of a vibrant, fun destination-a place people will want to live in or at least visit on holiday...

...marked contrast to the heady optimism, two years ago, of the so-called Cedar Revolution, the month-long series of street demonstrations triggered by the killing of Rafik Hariri and 22 other people in a massive Valentine's Day truck bomb explosion, which tore through Beirut's plush seafront hotel district. Hariri had been on the verge of leading an electoral campaign aimed at ending the dominance of Lebanese politics by neighboring Syria, a goal that many Lebanese believe cost him his life. "The Syrian regime killed my father," said Saad Hariri. "Bashar al-Assad gave the order...
