...second game of the season between the Bostons and the Harvards was played on the Union grounds on Saturday, 26th ult. After the weak display which the "University" had made the previous Saturday, an easy victory was anticipated for the Bostons. The result, however, was an agreeable disappointment, and the few spectators present were treated to an interesting and exciting game...
Though the score stands three to one against our nine, they have every reason to be proud of their record. The game was certainly the best-played one of the season. Where all did so well, it is difficult to particularize; but Kent and Hodges deserve especial praise for their fine fielding, while Hooper led at the bat; and the latter's pitching was also very effective, and was well supported by Sheahan behind the bat. ...Freshmen, we believe, belongs the credit of showing the first signs of returning life. Early in the season they originated the plan of having a tournament of the Freshmen Nines of all New England colleges. At the Convention held at the Massasoit House, Springfield, April 5, this plan was fully developed and established. The six colleges, represented by their delegates, decided that there should be such a tournament, and that it should take place at Springfield, July 14; each Nine playing with every other Nine. ...Harvard Glee Club and the Pierian Sodality will give their first concert of the season at Lyceum Hall, on Tuesday evening, March 25. We learn that the Pierians are playing even better than usual this winter; while, in spite of many obstacles, the Glee Club will, we doubt not, acquit itself well. The Pierians are to play the overture, Le Lac de Fees, by Auber, the Inman Line March, Grafenberger waltzes, minuet by Mozart, solos for the cornet and violoncello, and a piano-forte duet.
