Radcliffe's charter of 1894 mandates that the corporation work to provide a Harvard education for undergraduate women. Although this objective was certainly top priority in the late 1800's, the charter also included a second objective: to promote higher education for women in general. As Radcliffe came close to achieving the first mandate, the second stirred from its over 50-year sleep.
