Asks Rabbi Weiner: "Is it possible for the Christian faith to be dipped profoundly in the life and reality of modern Israel without undergoing some profound changes?" And he wonders if there might not be ''a kind of Christianity, a religious seed . . . acceptable to this soil...

...series of four pictures hanging on the light green wall opposite the elevators (which are not used very often, the stairs are quicker). The first shows a group of workers planting seed in an African village; the second, aged tribal chieftains dressed in colorful native costumes, bending over simple textbooks in an outdoor classroom. A third picture shows an Oriental girl, her jet black hair cropped to look like an overturned bowl, gazing suspiciously at a glass of milk and a piece of bread placed before her on a gay print tablecloth. The fourth picture is of two tiny children...

Speaking in New Orleans in 1959, Architect Walter Gropius, then 76, sadly noted: "I have been 'nobody's baby' during just those years of middle life which normally bring a man to the apex of his career, when seed sown earlier should have come to fruition." By that time, all the good grass will have caught hold, and the killer chemicals will attack only the germinating seeds-the crab grass and other undesirable weeds-that remain. Even if used properly, however, the killers may cause some harmful side effects...

Such questions, of course, pale beside blurbissimo writing. This is Michelangelo painting the figures of the Sistine Chapel ceiling: "Each one had to be pushed out of his artistic womb, pushed out by his own inarticulate frenzied force. He must gather within himself his galvanic might; his burgeoning seed must be generated each day anew within his vitals, hurtled into space, projected onto the ceiling, given life everlasting. Though he was creating God the Father, he himself was God the Mother ... on his lonely truckle bed high in the heavens, going through parturition to deliver a race of immortals...
