THERE is some talk of giving honors in Fine Arts. We do not see why there should not be this incentive and reward in Fine Arts as well as in other departments. The number of courses is limited, to be sure, and honors, would hardly represent as much work in this study, but with the growth of interest on the part of the students other courses will in time undoubtedly be added. It would not be necessary or appropriate to require fifteen hours, even if so many could be taken, for few indeed would care to devote themselves so exclusively...
...glad to see that our suggestion of lighting the steps of Memorial Hall has been acted upon. A lamp has been erected directly opposite the entrance, and will save the Hospital no small item in broken limbs...
...poetry of this is in the first line, where "years" are beautifully imagined to be lying between "death" and "tears." We fail to see the connection of death and tears with Greece and Rome, or why a man should search so eagerly for years at all. The next couplet is intended to show the high tone prevalent among the writer's acquaintances, but it can only happen in Montreal that joy is a regular "befaller" in woe and care. The denouement is certainly very sad; but it is at once seen that "he" would prefer even a gin-cocktail...
...criticism made here will not take issues with the new theory of instruction by cases. But lack of time and experience to test and impart it in such a masterly form, method, and application as we may hope to see the future produce, we believe should prevent its extensive or very general introduction at present...
