...fault is Damian Bagdan's for sounding too sincere. He's sincere enough to convince a Real-Man seeker, a traditional girl, a Prudence; to marry him, unless it's the speed and confusion of events which carry her to the submission point. These, plus the sharply-directed timing, carry the audience along with her through this production of Beyond Therapy. Yes, the set changes are distractingly clumsy, and the flatly acted waiter who finally shows up in the last scene is a detraction. With these problems, though, this is a play worth seeing, if only to laugh out loud...
...some singular special effects. Sometimes there was a strange gelatinous gunk--"green slime" or "moon glob"--that could be picked up and hurled in lieu of snowballs. Perhaps, since this was the first nationally televised encounter featuring a woman office-seeker, the exchange actually was as telling as the networks would have us believe. But we suspect that in England, for instance, where upheavals such as the Watergate crisis are viewed as periodic outbreaks of overblown national hysteria, viewers were shaking their heads and asking: Will Americans ever grow...
...inside her suit. Senior defensive tackle FRANK MAMBUCA was so excited about playing a home football game at last that he dyed his number into his hair with peroxide Harvard quarterback BRIAN WHITE didn't have to dye his hair to gain the attention of a post-game autograph seeker. Columbia scored three touchdowns its best point production against...
