...rhymes with post) is not a pretty soccer player to watch; he is tall and lanky; his long arms and awkward running style make him seem better suited to playing goalie than wandering around the middle of the field; he can't juggle the ball on his feet a thousand times; and evidently he doesn't always look where he's going. But Ron Ost is no longer eligible to play for Harvard because he plays in the ASL. Ron Ost is a good soccer player...

Thomas misjudges again in "The Health-Care System" where he discusses the "transformation of our environment" into "an immense imdustry...in aid of health." We have become obsessed with health, he contends, and there is something unhealthy about this. "We do not seem to be seeking exuberance in living as much as...putting off dying." While our society may have become a giant whirlpool treatment concerned with collective physiotherapy," Thomas's analysis of our motivation is missing something. Predictably, he does not seem all that happy with his role in this show--he ends up like Olivier in any of his recent roles, desperately mugging and overacting to compensate for the script--and maybe a little resentful, a little angry with himself for getting involved in all this. Actually, it's a lot like watching Olivier host Saturday Night Live. Worse, Borowitz and his court...
