Last week furniture men had convincing data on the extent to which they have met their problem, realized their hope. An annual survey of the industry compiled by Seidman & Seidman, top-flight furniture accountants, showed an aggregate net profit of 4.04% on sales of $430,000,000 in 1936, compared to a net loss of .6% on $307,000,000 sales in 1935. S. citizens were inclined to spend their first furniture money on upholstered chairs, studio couches, etc., putting makers of upholstered furniture in the black ink a year ahead of the industry as a whole. Their aggregate operating profit of 3.07% on sales in 1935 was more than doubled last year.
