...University team kept their feet well, and used good judgment at critical points. Both the offence and the defence were very strong throughout the game, the University men seldom failing to gain their ten yards. Kersburg, Parker and Burr, in the centre of the line, were very effective in stopping Maine's centre plays, and Burr and Kersburg often opened up the Maine line with great advantage for Harvard's offence. Osborne several times broke through Maine's line and downed the runner for a loss. On the ends Macdonald and Burnham played an excellent game, being very quick...
Dean Irwin of Radcliffe has just received the honorary degree of LL.D. "in absentia" from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. Seldom has such a degree been awarded from St. Andrews, the candidate usually being compelled to receive his degree in person. It is noteworthy that Dr. Benjamin Franklin, from whom Miss Irwin is directly descended, received a similar degree from St. Andrews among the first honors that were bestowed upon him. The hood and diploma will be sent to this country by a special representative, who will attend the Franklin bi-centenary to be held in Philadelphia from April...
...position at first base McCarty played a steady game, and seldom missed a difficult catch. At second McCall played with confidence. Stephenson and Leonard were in their old positions at catcher and third base, and both played steady games. Castle, who took Taylor's place as pitcher in the sixth inning, kept the hits fairly well scattered, and struck out five men. Taylor who preceded him was batted hard. The inexperience of the outfield was very evident at times by their inability...
...most of an extremely funny part. O. L. M. H. Lyding '09 as Dr. Scheffler, had a part which could easily have been overdone, and which he acted with pleasing restraint. The most difficult part was that of Hartwig, in which E. F. Hanfstaengl '09 showed an ability seldom seen among amateurs. G. A. Schneider '07 as Schnake and C. Wesselhoeft '08 as Dr. Steinkirch added greatly to the comedy of the play. The love scene between the latter and Ludmilla is perhaps the most amusing incident of the play...
Although the University team has played few games during the examination period, regular practice has been held, and it has developed increased speed in team play and more accurate shooting. The trick formations from the toss-up have been perfected, and seldom fail to work satisfactorily. Worcester Polytechnic has a fast team, which has played more games than the University team. They were, however, outclassed by Holy Cross, which was easily defeated by Harvard. The University team should have little difficulty in winning tonight...
