Excessive entanglement or approval of a particular religion may not be a serious problem in the Rhode Island community, but there are some places in the United States where setting up a creche would be just one more symbol of a community where it is difficult to be a Jew or an atheist. ...matter of days, even hours, after the New Hampshire primary, polltakers from Boston to Birmingham detected shifts in voter sentiment so rapid and large that at first they seemed a matter of sampling error, a computer blip. Vast numbers of citizens who had barely heard of Hart in mid-February had decided, literally overnight, that they would like to see him become the Democratic nominee. Then, stopping dead in his tracks, he turns to the audience to tell what is happening, what is to follow, and how he/we feel about it. At times, the sentiment and explanations come across as a little too facile; the action, with all the subtlety of Saturday-morning cartoons. Many of the minor characters are more effective in suggesting motivations than Huck, who is forced to state them, either through slightly too earnest philsophizing or in songs such as "How Much...
