...third cartoon by Breeden, published Sep. 22, depicts in one half of the frame the pope stating that “Violence is incompatible with the nature of God.” In the other half of the frame are depicted a series of rioters, including one in the foreground holding a sign stating “Death to the Pope.” This cartoon is similar to a cartoon by Monte K. Wolverton in The Wolvertoon, which also depicts the Pope stating that “Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature...

...have concluded that Breeden’s Oct. 25 and Oct. 18 cartoons drew inappropriately on the similar works, and as such, we have retracted these cartoons from The Crimson’s online edition. We also believe that the similarities in Breeden’s Sep. 22 and Oct. 11 cartoons and their similar works suggest the possibility that she inappropriately drew on them, though we cannot reach a definitive conclusion at this moment. All four of Breeden’s cartoons are reproduced below; links to the similar cartoons are available on the web version of this note...

...editors: I take significant issue with Mr. Bronshtein’s recently published “Make the Admissions Game Fair” (op-ed, Sep. 21) for several reasons. Initially, however, I will stand alongside the author in applauding the College’s recent decision to abolish its early action policy. I doubt it is intended to be so, because I sincerely believe the College’s primary concern in this matter is the safety and welfare of the undergraduates. Obviously, when abused, alcohol is a health risk. We, the undergraduates, definitely need to demonstrate personal responsibility when drinking alcohol. But considerations...

...editors: I hope Juliet Samuel (“A Place Called Community,” op-ed, Sep. 18) means well, but she seems rather misinformed about the ways the English system of university education works. Although I am told she is British, I took a degree from Oxbridge, and I cannot say I recognize those esteemed universities in the caricature she presents. Oxbridge undergrads and grad students enjoyed a healthy social life with all sorts of people, not just their entryway cohort, at least in my experience of less than 10 years ago. Merely being part of the same...
