Before retiring to private life in 1900, M. Millet was prominently connected with the French government. In 1885 he was appointed Minister to servia; from 1889 to 1894 he occupied a similar post 'in Sweden, and in 1895 he was sent as Resident General to Tunis, where he remained until his retirement from public service.
