...players, practically an entire eleven, who three weeks ago were set down as likely to begin the opening game of the season with Yale against Carnegie Institute, will probably be out of the line-up. The Yale situation has changed completely the past fortnight, and, although a lot of excellent material remains available, considerable has disappeared from college and still more will not be available till the season is well advanced...

...ground was bitterly contested and the dead were buried hastily at night, without the usual opportunity to search them for identification. The battalion entered the battle eleven hundred strong, of whom only 98 answered roll call that night. Maxwell was not of this number, and his name was set down under "missing" in the official casualty lists. Of Maxwell's company only twenty men survived and of his own platoon not one. Contrary to former years no fall races were held, and the entire time was spent on conditioning the men. Spring practice opened with full blast in February, when indoor work was commenced for the university and freshman squads. The size of the university squad was about the same as usual, but a greater number of freshman candidates reported than ever before. Weather conditions were the poorest of all years this season, and the indoor work was continued until April...
