...entitled "No More Excuses," is an extremely shoddy piece of journalism. Kurzman criticizes "apologists for Israel's every move," who "rationalize" immoral action by that country. Like Kurzman, I am critical of many of the policies of Israel's present government. For example, I deplore Likud's West Bank settlement policy and an uncomfortable with the 1982 invasion of southern Lebanon. However, Kurzman makes a mockery of any rational criticism by failing to back up his criticisms with specifics. Moreover his claim that there is an "unquestioning acceptance" in the Jewish community of the "immoral" actions of the Israeli government...
...Berri and Jumblatt, ironically, could still save the army as an institution. Although they called upon Muslim soldiers not to fight last week, both leaders want to preserve the units that support them. If and when a political settlement is reached that gives them a greater share of power, Berri and Jumblatt do not want to face the task of rebuilding an army from scratch...

In deed, American and Angolan officials have already made plans to resume the bi lateral discussions they began last year...
...preying on the great herds of deer, elk and bison. The Indians were so in awe of this skilled predator that many tribes incorporated the wolf in such rituals as ceremonial dances, hoping that braves might acquire some of the animal's courage and stamina. But with the settlement of the continent, the hunter became the hunted. Today Canis lupus has all but vanished from the contiguous 48 states. Only in the lonely wilds of northern Minnesota is there any significant concentration of wolves, about 1,200 animals...
