...below the topsoil. The superficial concerns about our Yard are, of course, both abundant and well founded. Everyone can see that it's ugly. Some people have found that it smells bad. At 10 minutes past the hour, the impossibility of running in a straight line over it to Sever Hall is cursed by all and sundry. But now the inner as well as the outer blemishes on our lawns can be shown. Now the grass can be understood. We may still sigh in resignation when we see it, but now, at least, we can sigh more deeply...

...true that Tercentenary Theatre is an optimum location to appeal to large masses of the student body at once. Students continuously Sever to Widener to the Yard on the hour for a majority . But at the same time, we are doing just that: running from one section back to our dorm rooms or off to grab a "fly-by" lunch before our next class. Rarely do we even pause to peruse the updated kiosks or study posted flyers. If we pay such little attention to humorous brightly colored posters, why would we be any more responsive to the monotone...

While first-years will still attend the time-honored presidential barbecue in Radcliffe Yard, this September a Radcliffe representative will not join Rudenstine on the receiving line. And Nathans said officials have discussed moving the event to Sever Yard in the future...
