Harvard qualified men in each of the three heats of the 440-yard run. In the first heat Blumer of Harvard had the pole and ran in the front rank all the way. Seymour of Yale led until after the turn, when he was passed first by Blumer and then by Leger of Michigan and Hurlburt of Cornell. Blumer saved himself at the finish and allowed Leger to pass him for first place. The time, 50 2-5 seconds, was the fastest of the three heats.
