Yesterday there was a general provisional shake-up in the orders of the University crews owing to the poor showing in the trial row Tuesday. Captain Filley rowed stroke in place of Farley, who filled Shepard's position ar stroke on the second crew, the latter being moved to number 2 on the first. Corlett, Lawson, and Montgomery were also tried on the first crew at numbers 7, 6, and 5, respectively. Owing to Meier's absence. Lilly was put into the second boat...
...yesterday. Ayer, who was unable to row at Ithaca on account of the rules governing the regatta, was put back at 7, and Haycock was moved to 5. Derby, who has been rowing at 4, and Ober, who has been at 3, changed placed. As a result of this shake-up the work was rather unsatisfactory. The first crew rowed in unchanged order. The men were better together, but seemed unable to keep their boat on an even keep. Coach Higginson, during the first part of the practice, gave special attention to individual members of the crew laying particular stress...
Last Thursday McGrew went in at stroke for the first time; Filley, who had been rowing 2, was put at 6 and Wolcott was moved from stroke in the second to 2 in the first, Dillingham going back to the second. As a result of this shake-up the crew has made a most noticeable improvement in almost every way. The present make-up seems to be the most satisfactory that has yet been tried and it is safe to say that, on the whole, the crew is in a more developed state than it was at the same time...
