...happened, the first issue of a new series about the lives of more contemporary young adults came across my desk at the same time as "Summer Job." It makes for a cruel comparison. (The author, who means well and is just starting out, shall be spared identification.) Full of shallow and spoiled characters who booze and screw, the Gen-Y book has as little point as they do. You feel kept at an arm's length either by its accuracy or its incompetence (depending on how cynical you are). Completely opposite to this, "Summer Job" pulls...

...shallow graves of Mohamed Sakran were discovered by chance. Files found in Baghdad's notorious Section 5 prison listed the names of executed prisoners and numbers of their graves. Notified by an inmates' group, families immediately traveled to the cemetery, 25 miles west of Baghdad in the city of Al Hawsa. What they found, tucked in a well-kept conventional cemetery, was a rectangular field twice the size of a gridiron. A cinderblock wall blocked off the space. High above it were watchtowers apparently manned by guards to keep out unauthorized visitors...
