...rights for a play in which Mitchell will (heroically) portray a gay man. Her willingness to verbally abuse all comers into submission until the terms of the contract read “in perpetuity through the end of time” is representative of a character that is shallow, but delightfully so. Keiller’s performance is masterful; her character is in total control of her huge catalogue of barbs and imposing enough to silence the background music herself without saying a word.Other highlights include enlightened discussions on Breakfast at Tiffany’s (“The movie...
...hour-long conversation barely touched on the hot buttons of yore: abortion, crime and affirmative action. Their world, after all, encompasses RU 486, lower murder rates and Oprah. What concerns many of them is the nature of politics: the perceived gridlock of parties, conniving of special interests and shallow biases of the media. When Obama talks broadly about changing those dynamics, what strikes some older ears as airy and substance-free hits younger voters as the chime of insight. While so many TV shows are empty-headed and shallow, The Wire's complex characters and plots force viewers to think about U.S. society. Perhaps this is why this show isn't as popular as it deserves to be. Jenny C. McGrath NORTH BRUNSWICK...
...recorded, documented, and analyzed by Wonkette et al. It’s no wonder that campaign managers have become savvy calculators of risk micro-management. All this tiptoeing around really means, however, is that at the ballot box we’ll be forced to choose between two equally shallow cardboard cutouts. What we need is a candidate with fire and drive, somebody respectful of America’s ideals and seasoned politically, yet bold enough to suggest drastic reform if the case calls for it. We’re not going to get that kind of candidate this election...
