...doesn't make much of a difference whether or not two freshmen support SASC. But it seems a shame that anyone who opposes apartheid should be alienated by a group dedicated to the eradication of it. The South African people deserve all the help they can get; it is sad thing that they are denied the organized support of anyone due to the extraneous political beliefs of SASC...

...American director might have struggled more self-consciously with the concept of a filmed Hair, unearthing the despair and shame, the horror and uncertainties of the late sixties. But Hair is too light a vehicle for that kind of agonizing exorcism it would have been mawkish, shallow posturing. Someday an American director will film that scraggly mess. Bloom's failure must be diagnosed as one of the heart, not the head. His agile mind latches onto a bit of esoterica and clearly delights in its possibilities, but cannot communicate any enthusiasm. It is indeed a shame that Bloom cannot join the visionary company of his betters in myth-making--but too much criticism has apparently blinded his imagination...
