...uncompromising use of power is difficult for Europeans to swallow. We are much more used to parliamentary compromises, minority governments, pros and cons, and, simply, doubt. I am quite worried that Americans and Europeans are drifting apart in a way we have never seen before. It is a real shame, and we need to rebuild the old alliance. McGraw is not totally risk averse--a neutral mention of abortion on his 2002 hit Red Ragtop was a country watershed--but in general he is too cautious and too willing to compromise his individual perspective to be considered a significant artist. It's a shame, given that his biography is rich territory: he was born dirt poor, he discovered as an adolescent that his father was the late big-league pitcher Tug McGraw, and he was rejected by almost every record label for being too ordinary before becoming a star when Curb Records finally took a chance...

...perhaps all of this is beside the point, since after all, the plaintiffs allege that it was their idea all along. Shame on Zuckerberg for taking their grand plans and making them happen first. Setting aside the legal questions of whether Zuckerberg fulfilled his vague quasi-contractual duties, what the plaintiffs are forgetting by starting this tiff is that neither ConnectU nor thefacebook are new ideas. Poking aside, both are Friendster knockoffs made unique by their exclusivity and a few, college-centric features. (And Friendster itself was an imitation of other sites before it.)
