Londoners had to cope with horrendous traffic jams as traffic and street lights went blank. Children were sent home from heatless schools. Housewives faced piles of unwashed diapers, watched their soufflés sink, and could take no refuge in their powerless television sets. And then there's the tunnel-of-legs sequence, with a long camera track at floor level passing under the opened legs of the chorus line.
