Other works seem to threaten a powder-keg of tensions, hidden under a ominous veneer. Long Nguyen's "Soul Boat No. 7" -- the title itself a sardonic jab -- seethes with the Hades-like passage of a boat slowly assuming the shape and qualities of its passengers. The nightmarish metamorphosis, replete with shadily defined forms and oil gloops that seem to jump out at selected spots, continues to haunt the viewer with its fearsome evocation of adaptation and voyage gone awry...

A record of the town history that eludes the wants and needs of particular souls takes shape and begins to take on a sort of independent, convincing veracity. Were it not for witnesses--that is, friends, lovers, and family--audiences would hear the most benign version of events, and dead souls' painful memories would be comfortably elided from their personal histories...

This need for female role models is not limited to our campus. Another male-only presidential race is taking shape, and the only national news about politically active women seems to involve the never-ending suspicions cast upon Hillary Rodham Clinton. As a result, yet another challenge for campus women this semester will be to make the political world relevant to our lives.
