As they entered the last couple of laps, Harrison pulled away from Gompers, but Sheehan's gutsy kick was just enough for him to take third by the slimmest of margins...
Harvard continued to add to its point total in the 1500 when senior Adam Dixon and Sheehan took first and second, respectively. Huskie Jim Sargeant had the lead as the trio went into the gun lap. Coming around the last turn. Sheehan put on a burst of speed and passed Sargeant. But, just as Sheehan nabbed the lead. Dixon put on his usual explosive kick and passed both of them to win the race with a time...
...distance events, the Crimson was just as successful. Sophomore Cliff Sheehan edged out senior Adam Dixon to capture the 1500 and then watched as Dixon edged out Eric Schuler in the 1500. Dixon and Schuler shook off Yale's Mark Atkeson as they rounded the last lap and then the Crimson duo matched each other stride for stride until Dixon outkicked Schuler down the stretch...
Sophomore Cliff Sheehan also ran in four events, including the 3000, placing fifth despite running in the unseeded heat. And the list of gutsy efforts goes on and on Junior Brad Bunney took third in the hall-mile and ran in two relays as well...
