DIED. Lawrence Shehan, 86, Roman Catholic Cardinal since 1965 and retired Archbishop of Baltimore and an eloquent advocate of civil rights and ecumenism; in Baltimore. He was ordained in 1922, consecrated a bishop in 1945, and named Archbishop of his home town in 1961. He quickly ordered the desegregation of all schools and other institutions under his jurisdiction, and in 1963 took part in the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s march on Washington.
