Owing to bad weather but little work was done by the university and freshman crews during the vacation. The men rowed on the harbor mostly in pairoars, it being too rough for the shell. No graduate coaches were able to assist Captain Treadway. ...last two or three days the 'varsity crew has been rowing in one of their new shells. The work of the men has not improved much during the past week, but this is undoubtedly due to the number of changes that have been made in the boat and to the fact that the men have not yet become accustomed to a shell. ...Saturday afternoon the crew only rowed down to the Harvard bridge and then turned back and went some distance up stream. While rowing up the river the shell struck a rock. The men had to be taken into the launch and the boat was towed back to the crew quarters. Duffield and Hayes stopped rowing on Saturday.
