WHEN BRIAN McCUE QUIT as director of this show, consensus held it would sink. Enter Shipley Munson. Under the guidance of producer Mark Stone, he patched it up, and then steered it to satire, while avoiding hack. His predictable cynicism--"let's poke a little fun at it as we go along"--creeps in here, but on the whole the calisthenics amuse the youngsters without alienating their chaperones...
THEN COMES the fine supporting cast, all of whom perform up to expectations. Most House shows would be hard pressed to come up with leads as good as this supporting cast: Shipley Munson and David Frutkoff form a fine duo as Nathan's sidekicks, and their rendition of the title song is as good as any. Among the others, Jim Mulqueeny, Michael der Manuelian, Kerry Konrad and Marc Johnson strut their stuff with authority...
...show-stopper, and I'm told that the disco-oriented "Travolta-clone" scene in Act II was equally memorable). And while all of the actors did creditable jobs within the horrible confines of the format, there were a number of unquestionable standouts (at least in Act I): Shipley Munson as the aforementioned squeakyvoiced space-person named Xeno Phobia, Michael Der Manuelian as the slick and sleazy Otto Beolaw, Stephen Hayes as the seductive and slinky Giovanna Dance, and Willy Falk (Betty Won't--get it??)--my personal favorite--as the wacky robot R2E2. (To those actors who undoubtedly stood...

Munson and Jane Gitschier are consistent exceptions--the former by his air of zany snootiness, the latter by her charming joie de vivre...
...score their scoops. They dug out the story in tortuously mined fragments, relying on shrewd hunches, dogged legwork and constant checking. Their efforts paid off on the night of Sept. 28, 1972, when a phone call from an unidentified Government lawyer steered Bernstein to a Tennessee state official, Alex Shipley, who said that he had been approached in June 1971 by Donald Segretti, an Army pal from Viet Nam days. Segretti wanted Shipley to work for the Nixon forces as part of an undercover dirty-tricks campaign against Democratic presidential contenders in 1972. The tireless tracking down of Segretti brought...
