Everyone knows the Titanic sank because an iceberg cut a huge gash in its side. But everybody's wrong, says a group of naval architects and marine engineers. Extensive sea-bottom photos of the ship show no gash. The real problem was the ship's steel plating, which was inherently brittle, say the experts -- even a small impact could have caused major cracks.
