Drawn from Emyln William's stage shocker, the picture is finely filmed and avoids the whodunit pitfalls of most murder stories by the sympathetic performances of its cast. Robert Montgomery is splendid as the killer, and although Rosalind Russel's portrayal of combined fascination and revulsion is rather unpleasant to behold, her performance is excellent.
