Jaws drop in shock as Morris begins paying romantic attentions to Catherine. Both of Catherine's aunts, Lavinia and Elizabeth (Sheila Ferrini), delight in her unexpected good fortune. ...Mollusk, the experimental means to an end do not provide any substance. That Ween was up to the challenge is valiant, but the subject matter flattens any hope for success. Maybe next time the group will look to a brighter, more accessible topic and shock the music world with an unpredictable comic brilliance. ...find a water passage to the Pacific. They traveled upstream the entire length of the Missouri, a distance of 2,700 miles. They crossed the Rockies, having expected mountains no more daunting than the Appalachians. When the screen shows peaks stretching to the horizon, you feel their shock and despair. Suddenly they knew that the Northwest Passage was a chimera and that the mission would become inconceivably arduous. Yet Lewis and Clark succeeded in leading their men to the Pacific and back home with only one fatality (caused by a burst appendix). On their return they were treated as heroes...

...China of the plot is well done. The customs and protocols which Moore must battle through are realistic and convincing, sometimes even engaging, even if they are just a gimmick to put new complications in old situations. Director Jon Avnet does a good job of making the culture shock as real for the audience as it is for Moore. This is achieved mostly through the exploitation of the language barrier to show the foreign and conflicting pursuits of the two sides...
