Charles and his tiny crew were just about that fearless during the making of the film. Baron Cohen was more so. For the two-month shoot, he was in character from early in the morning until night. The crew shot so much footage that Charles is trying to sell the unused parts to HBO as a series. Even when the cops came--which the director says happened at least 50 times--Baron Cohen never dropped character. It's an impressive, perhaps insane, performance: Johnny Knoxville with a sense of humor, Andy Kaufman with a desire to please, Peter Sellers...
...accomplished all this on an 18-day shoot, six of which were devoted to the bathroom scenes, shot in chronological order. (The rest of the picture, about Police Detective Danny Glover's attempt to find Jigsaw, is pretty ordinary.) It was your basic, low-budget, get-it-done movie. Whannel recalls that "James would ask for a third take, and the A.D. [assistant director] would be like, 'What do you think you are - Kubrick?'" Somehow, though, these two kids from an Australian film school, working on their first feature, got it done, and matched the ingenuity of the plot with...

The trade is brisk in the buildup to Diwali, with thousands of stores across India selling hundreds of tons of firecrackers...

I have a lot of things wrong with me, and so there are a lot of medical problems and stuff. That makes it harder, but you don't know that when you're playing. As soon as you start playing, all that goes away...
Roth's film Hostel, about young backpackers caught in a pay-for-torture club in Slovakia, was inspired, he says, by a website he saw advertising a club in Thailand that claimed to let you shoot someone for $10,000. The torture scenes Roth devised came from researching European witch trials and Nazis and from some trips he made to the tool aisle at Home Depot (one shot guarantees you'll never look at bolt cutters the same way again). In the scene that won Roth the Most Memorable Mutilation prize at this month's Scream Awards, a kind...
